More sustainable

Business operations

In order to continue producing facing bricks now and for future generations, it is important that we treat our environment and available raw materials in a responsible manner. That is why we are continuously looking for ways to make our business operations more sustainable. And this applies in all areas of our organisation.

Dinkelsteen

We have been combining craftsmanship with innovation for 160 years. With Dinkelsteen® we introduce a slimmer 70 mm-wide facing brick: 30% slimmer than the traditional Waal format. This offers architects more design freedom for smooth, minimalist façades.

Sustainable and environmentally friendly

The narrower size reduces CO₂-emissions and energy consumption. The local clay extraction supports circular construction. And thanks to its long lifespan, we reduce the impact on the environment.

Spread over an area of 14,000 m2

7,000 solar panels

We generate 1.9 million kWh annually for direct use in our production process. This way we reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to the reduction of CO² emissions. We return the energy we do not use ourselves to the grid. Not only do we make our own production more sustainable this way, we also contribute to a greener society.

Natuurherstel

Nature restoration

In collaboration with Natuurmonumenten, we are redeveloping the Hogeland into a wet meadow bird area. The clay extraction area near Ulsda has been converted into arable land and emergency water storage.

ISO 14001 Certificering

ISO 14001 certification

With this international ISO quality mark, we demonstrate that our environmental policy meets globally recognised requirements. It underscores our commitment to a structural, measurable and sustainable reduction of our environmental impact.

Zero water usage

We do not use water in the production of our bricks. Instead, we extract as much of the required moisture as possible from the clay itself: this improves its strength and shortens the baking and drying time.

Delta T drogen

Delta T drying

We use Delta T drying as part of the drying process of our facing bricks. We use the difference in temperature between the bricks and the ambient air. This speeds up the drying process and reduces energy consumption. Thanks to our advanced software, we continuously monitor and optimise the drying conditions. This way we ensure the efficient and sustainable drying of our facing bricks, whereby we not only save energy, but also guarantee the quality of our products.

Droogstapelen

Dry stacking system

Where possible, we use a circular and dry stacking system. In collaboration with Drystack, we provide the selected facing bricks with 16 holes: the preparation for the use of a bonding layer. This has been specially developed from high-quality plastic and complies with all certifications and therefore with the Buildings Decree.

Thanks to the bonding layer, you can easily stack them, which guarantees a straight and sturdy wall. With this construction method you can create a demountable exterior wall. The use of mortar is no longer necessary and the bricks are reusable. This is how we reduce CO² emissions.

Duurzamere Verpakkingsfolies

2025: recyclable pallets

We will switch to recyclable plastic pallets by the end of 2025. They are reusable and create less waste in our packaging process.

Elektrisch Wagenpark

2027: electric fleet

By 2027, our entire fleet will be electric or hybrid. This is how we reduce emissions and make our transport more sustainable.
