Maximum design freedom with our

Dinkelsteen®

For more than 160 years, Strating has combined craftsmanship and innovation to create facing bricks that help architects define façades. With Dinkelsteen®, we offer a slimmer, more refined facing brick that opens up new design possibilities. At just 70 mm wide, Dinkelsteen® is 30% slimmer than traditional Waal format bricks. This increases design freedom and makes clean, minimalist and sustainable façades possible.

A façade is more than an exterior. It is the architect's signature. Dinkelsteen® gives every façade its own distinctive character, from contemporary minimalism to rich historical references. With bespoke colour, structure and size, you not only support the function of the building but also enhance the experience of its surroundings.

Developed from real-world challenges

In renovation projects, connecting a new façade to an existing foundation often presents a challenge. Architects need a slimmer profile and cleaner lines without compromising insulation performance or design freedom. That challenge led to the development of Dinkelsteen® fifteen years ago.

We created a bespoke solution that met every requirement: a clean profile, suitable for narrow joints and providing additional space for insulation within the cavity wall. What began as a bespoke solution has since become a permanent part of our collection. Over the years, we have built extensive expertise in applying slim facing bricks in both renovation and new-build projects. We use that knowledge to help architects create technically feasible and visually distinctive designs.

Why Dinkelsteen®

The name Dinkelsteen® is inspired by the little finger: small, yet essential for precision and grip. Just as an artist perfects a masterpiece with a subtle brushstroke, Dinkelsteen® enables architects to refine details and bring their vision to life. Dinkelsteen® demonstrates the power of subtlety, where small details make the difference between the ordinary and the exceptional.

Dinkelsteen Strengpers

Precision through our extrusion process

Traditional bricks are typically formed in moulds, much like a cake baked in a tin. When removed, small imperfections remain along the edges. In bricks, this results in rough corners and less consistent dimensions.

Our facing bricks are produced using an extrusion process. Clay is extruded under high pressure and cut into bricks with exceptional precision. The result is clean lines, sharp edges and facing bricks with consistently accurate dimensions. You decide the colour, structure and finish, exactly as your design requires.

More space for living and insulation

Slimmer walls create 1–2% additional floor area, providing more usable interior space in new-build projects. Within the cavity wall, Dinkelsteen® creates an additional 35 mm of space. This can be used to increase insulation thickness and improve the building's thermal performance.

The slim format also offers significant advantages in renovation projects. Because Dinkelsteen® requires less space, it can often be used on existing foundations. This allows you to preserve architectural freedom while meeting modern insulation requirements, without major structural alterations.

A sustainable solution

Despite its compact dimensions, Dinkelsteen® makes a significant contribution to the sustainability of construction projects. Its slim format allows more facing bricks to be fired in each kiln cycle, reducing energy consumption and lowering CO₂ emissions.

We use locally sourced marine clay from Groningen. This clay is richer than river clay, making it ideally suited to our extrusion process. Local sourcing reduces transport movements and supports circular construction. Combined with the durability and long service life achieved through our extrusion technology, Dinkelsteen® further reduces environmental impact.

Co2 Reductie

Lower CO₂ emissions

The slim format allows more facing bricks to be fired in each kiln cycle, reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.

Minder Klei

Less clay

Using fewer raw materials per facing brick makes Dinkelsteen® a more sustainable choice.

Efficienter Transport

More efficient transport

More facing bricks fit on every lorry, reducing transport movements by up to 33% and lowering the overall environmental footprint.
